Public Class: Summer Jams with Sallie Miller

Registration ends Friday, 08/14/2026 5:00pm PDT

About This Event

As temperatures rise, summer's finest fruits and berries are at their most vibrant — ready to be captured in a jar and savored in seasons to come. A handful of herbs, spices, and simple techniques are all it takes to elevate these sweet, tart gems from ordinary jam into something entirely your own.

Culinary expert Sallie Miller (and jam maker extraordinaire!) will guide guests through time-tested methods for transforming fragrant fruits and luscious berries into flavorful preserves. Along the way, you'll collect a bushel of tips on cooking, canning, essential equipment, and inspired flavor combinations. Taste your creations together at the end of class with hot-from-the-oven Buttermilk Biscuits.

What You Make and Take Home:

  • Blueberry Lime Coriander Jam and Plum Star Anise Preserves
  • Take-Home Jars of Each Recipe
  • Equipment Guide and Recipes

About the instructor: As a lifetime lover of food and the ways it build community, Sallie Miller has worked since her teens at the intersection of food and hospitality. She helped build North Bay brands, co-owned the now-closed Miracle Plum wine and food shop in Santa Rosa, and now serves as  Director of Social Enterprise for Homeward Bound of Marin.

Reservations close Aug. 14, 2026.

*We are not able to accommodate dietary requests for hands-on events. Please read the menu carefully and contact us with any questions at events@hbofm.org.
