When the Ask Gets Heavy (9/17/26)

About This Event

When the Ask Gets Heavy
Rebuilding clarity, courage, and resilience in emotionally demanding work

Session Overview

Fundraising is meaningful work, but it is also emotionally demanding work.

Development professionals carry the weight of donor expectations, organizational pressure, repeated rejection, urgent financial needs, and the personal responsibility of representing a mission that matters. Over time, even committed professionals can find themselves tired, discouraged, or unclear about how to keep showing up with energy and purpose.

In this 45-minute keynote with workshop elements, I will help AFP Treasure Coast members reflect on the hidden emotional weight of fundraising and explore practical ways to remain steady, clear, and resilient in the midst of pressure.

The session will include story-driven teaching, practical reflection, and a guided handout participants can complete during the talk. Attendees will leave with language, perspective, and simple tools they can use to stay grounded in the mission while continuing to care for their own capacity.

Audience Takeaways

Participants will leave with:

  1. A clearer understanding of the emotional demands unique to fundraising work.

  2. Practical language for recognizing pressure, rejection, fatigue, and discouragement without being defined by them.

  3. A framework for rebuilding clarity and courage when the work feels heavy.

  4. Encouragement to remain grounded in the mission while also caring for their own capacity.

  5. A guided reflection handout they can use during and after the session.
