About LVA's Curate, Purchase, Inspire (CPI) Program
In spring 2022 Louisville Visual Art (LVA) initiated a new program to support Louisville’s artists, curators, and organizations by placing original art in accessible spaces at local non-profits. Curate Purchase Inspire (CPI) is an exciting opportunity to support the city’s entire visual arts ecosystem and is made possible by a generous $1 Million gift from local artist and philanthropist, Clare Hirn. The first year's exhibits were a great success and Louisville Visual Art (LVA) is excited that for 2024 we have selected two individuals for the 3rd cohort: Lindsey Cummins and Anne Borders. Look for updates on their projects as they develop.
As part of a multi-artist installation at Louisville Grows, LVA is proud to present three site-responsive works, curated by Lindsey Cummins, that transform the rooftop into an immersive, evolving environment. Artists Azucena Trejo Williams and Nathaniel Hendrickson will install hand-formed ceramic slabs onto the bridge structure, shaped organically to mirror the natural landscape. These pieces will respond to wind and rain, producing subtle sound and environmental changes over time. Nearby, Jessica Chao and Claire Krüeger will suspend a translucent, embroidered textile from a custom-built extension at the four corners of the fencing. Inspired by the crown shyness effect in tree canopies, the naturally dyed fabric will fade with time while the embroidery endures—visually linking to the quilt-like mural below. On the rooftop platform, artist Peter Price will carve five persimmon tree stumps donated by Limbwalker, transforming them into sculptural seating and tables. Each stump will feature engraved drawings and will be partially hollowed for ease of use. All three installations are being realized in collaboration with creative consultant and contractor Brad Titzer, who is supporting the structural integration of each element—from a pulley system for the textile piece to a rooftop platform that supports the tree stumps.
