About This Event

The First Line with Brian Johnson

on Tuesday, June 2 from 7 to 8:30 pm @ the Workshop Gallery in Building 3 at Ball & Socket Arts

Paul Valery said, “The first line is genius; all the rest is work.” In this workshop, we will try to surprise ourselves and others with moments of genius, creating those first lines that are the start of everything. Poets, fiction writers, and memoirists—basically, all who want to find themselves a great first line—are welcome to join the workshop.

Brian Johnson is the author of Torch Lake and Other Poems and the recipient of two Connecticut Commission on the Arts Fellowships. He directs the first-year writing program at Southern Connecticut State University.

Workshop is limited to 12 participants, so be sure to register now! Writers at all levels are welcome to attend.

$30 gets you 90 minutes of instruction in the Workshop Gallery at Ball & Socket Arts. If cost presents a barrier to your participation, please reach out to our team for options at info@ballandsocket.org.
