Who Do We Have Here? Exercises in Developing Character with Kristin Dringoli

Tuesday, June 30

7 to 8:30 pm

What does it mean to craft vivid characters? How do we make them vibrate with the energy and complexity inherent to the human experience? In this workshop, we will look at powerful examples of characters from literary fiction and mingle with the sculptural “residents” of Ball & Socket’s campus to source inspiration. We will then explore a variety of playful exercises centered around character development and begin to craft a scene with our newly imagined characters.

Kristin Dringoli’s fiction has been published in Flash Fiction Magazine, Spellbinder, Essays & Fictions, and Potluck Mag, and was longlisted for the Ploughshares 2025 Emerging Writer’s Contest. She is the 2025-2026 Ball & Socket Arts Writer-in-Residence and was a 2025 Poet & Author Fellowship recipient for the Martha's Vineyard Summer Writer's Conference. She is currently pursuing her MFA at Southern Connecticut State University.

Workshop is limited to 12 participants, so be sure to register now! Writers at all levels are welcome to attend.

$30 gets you 90 minutes of instruction in the Workshop Gallery at Ball & Socket Arts. If cost presents a barrier to your participation, please reach out to our team for options at info@ballandsocket.org.
