About This Event

Event Details:

Date: Friday, September 27, 2024
Time: 11:00 AM - 4:30 PM
Place: ImOn Ice Arena
Organized & Sponsored By: Cedar Rapids Curling Club

Twelve teams will learn how to curl and then will compete the same day in Curl Jam! All proceeds from the event benefit The Arc of East Central Iowa. The Arc's mission is to empower individuals with disabilities and their families to engage in lifelong opportunities to live, learn, work, play, and advocate with full dignity and inclusion in their communities. The Arc has been serving the Cedar Rapids area for over 70 years!

Registration:

12 Teams
4 or 5 Members per Team (Name and Contact Email Required for Each Participant)
*Teams of 5 will rotate players.

Registration Fee - $1,000 per Team

What to Expect:

Cedar Rapids Curling provides all the necessary curling equipment. After a quick off-ice discussion about the basics of curling and safety, teams will head onto the ice for a clinic led by experienced Cedar Rapids Curling coaches to learn how to throw and sweep the stone. We then will proceed to a three-round, mini-game tournament. Don’t worry, the coaches will be with you all the way, discussing strategy and answering all your questions.

Clothing: The air temperature in the arena usually is in the 40s (but no wind). Dress in warm, loose-fitting clothing (tight jeans will hinder movement). Some people also start with light gloves/mittens and a hat. Most people start shedding layers once they start a game.

Footwear: No skates! You just need a pair of clean rubber soled athletic shoes (no heels, open toed shoes, dress shoes, boots, slippers, loafers, or any footwear with a hard sole).

Sense of Humor: Mandatory! Consider a fun team name also.

Physical Requirements: If you can survive Iowa winters, you can curl! We will find a way for any interested person who can safely be on the ice to participate when their physical abilities do not allow for typical curling styles and techniques. We have special stone delivery devices for those who may not be able to comfortably crouch down to deliver (throw) stones and we can accommodate individuals with more significant physical limitations. Contact us with questions about your particular circumstances if you have concerns; we almost certainly will be able to accommodate.

Release & Waiver: Each participant is required to sign the event's Release and Waiver before being able to participant. Here is the release and waiver to review.

If you have any questions please contact Jenny Bosking at jbosking@arceci.org or 319-365-0487 ext. 1024.
