Mindfulness Bird Outing at Cromwell Valley Park

Join us for a morning of bird joy at Cromwell Valley Park as we appreciate and learn about the birds of the park! Everyone is welcome, regardless of previous birding experience. Though we are sad to say goodbye to many of the summer residents at the park as they migrate south for the winter, we are excited to see the park change as it welcomes migrant birds and its winter residents. This bird walk will be focused on the benefits of nature and its ability to positively impact our mental health. We will go at a slow pace, allowing participants to fully immerse themself in the birds and other nature. 

The planned route is roughly 1.0 miles of mixed surfaces, starting with asphalt for roughly 0.2 miles, then switching to a mowed grass trail for 0.6 miles, and then returning along the asphalt road to the parking lot. There are a few benches throughout the walk, where we can take breaks to accommodate a suitable pace for everyone. Our walk will have portions with shade and portions without (roughly 50/50). We expect it to be chilly in the morning with the potential of getting warmer as the morning goes on. We suggest dressing warm with layers if possible. 

Two portable restrooms, including one wheelchair accessible portable restroom, will be available at the start/end point of the walk, but no other restrooms are available throughout the walk. 

Five pairs of binoculars are available on request, and one of the leaders will be carrying a spotting scope for the whole group to share.    To request one of the loaner binoculars, choose that option at registration.

Parking and Meetup for the outing will be at the paved lot at the Sherwood Farms entrance to Cromwell Valley Park. Following the paved road into the park, go right at the fork and continue until you reach the paved lot. We will be meeting near the portable restrooms at one end of the lot.

• Registration for this event constitutes the acceptance of the above waiver
• No birders under the age of 18 (so sorry!!!)
• No pets allowed.   Service dogs always permitted.
• Be courteous and respectful of all birders.   We will walk at the pace of the slowest birder.
