Revolution in Motion

About This Event

Join the Old Colony History Museum (OCHM) and the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) as we pay tribute to Taunton’s signer of the Declaration of Independence, Robert Treat Paine, and kick off our celebration of 250 years of American independence.

Schedule of Events:

The tribute will begin with check-in at OCHM at 11:00 AM and include a wreath-laying ceremony with musket fire by the SAR at the Robert Treat Paine statue in front of Taunton City Hall, followed by a Revolutionary walking tour of downtown led by OCHM with assistance from the SAR.

After the walking tour, guests are invited to return to the museum to explore our recently completed Military Room and try their hand at signing their name with quill pen and ink—just as Robert Treat Paine once did.

Lunch is on your own, but we suggest:

  • Union Straw (10% discount for OCHM members with membership card), or
  • A picnic lunch from Trucchi’s Supermarket to enjoy on historic Taunton Green

At 2:00 PM, we will host a guest lecture with local historian and reenactor Jason Roomes, who will speak about the African American experience in the American Revolution, including the story of his own ancestor.

This walking tour and lecture are funded by the Creative SouthCoast Initiative Fund of the SouthCoast Community Foundation. Through this grant, admission is free for all visitors; however, registration is required to attend both parts of the program. This initiative is part of ArtWeek SouthCoast 2026, a 10-day regional celebration of art, culture, and community across Southeastern Massachusetts, taking place May 8–17. To learn more, visit artweeksouthcoast.org.

The OCHM is proud to offer free public programs, continuing our long tradition of providing accessible history and learning for all.
