Making African Masks in ASL: History, Symbols, and Creative Expression

About This Event

Join Black Deaf artist Angelo Harrington for a 3-hour hands-on art class exploring African art—its history, symbols, and cultural significance. Participants will learn about traditional African artistic styles and create an original masks inspired by these powerful traditions. No experience needed—just bring your creativity and friends! All materials are provided, and this class is perfect for adults and teens ages 15 and up.

Register below to reserve your spot before February 16 for the class on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at Annette Nitko Community Room in DEAF, Inc., starting at 6:00 pm CDT. 

About the Class

The class is three hours long. This event is open to the public; however, please note that this class is specifically designed for attendees with hearing loss and will be provided in American Sign Language (ASL) for non-signers. 

The cost of the class is $10, and no refunds are available.
