- ASL Storytelling – Competitors perform an original or traditional ASL story, judged on clarity, emotion, and creativity.
- Handshape Storytelling – A storytelling technique using signs that primarily feature one specific handshape or a sequence of handshapes.
- ABC Storytelling – A storytelling technique where each sign follows the handshapes of the ASL alphabet in sequential order (A to Z).
- Visual Vernacular Storytelling – A storytelling technique using a culmination of elements including strong body language, facial expressions, and mime.
Special Features
🎤 Guest Judges: Three well-known local ASL experts will serve as judges for the contest.
🏆 Prizes & Recognition – The winner receives a trophy, prizes, and community spotlight opportunities.
How does the contest work?
On Friday morning, March 28, 2025, contestants will receive an email with detailed instructions for each category 24 hours before the competition begins. You, as a contestant, will have a day to prepare.
After each performance category, the judges will submit their ratings. The contestant with the lowest score will be eliminated. The contest will continue with various category challenges until the last standing contestant wins.
What happens if the two lowest scores are tied?
In the event of a tie for the lowest score, the tied contestants will enter an ASL Faceoff. Each contestant will be given a specific handshape and must take turns signing different words using that handshape. The first contestant who hesitates, repeats a word, or is unable to continue will be eliminated.
