Destiny Harrison was a proud graduate of Merganthaler Vocational Technical High School's Cosmetology program (known as Mervo). Early on, she worked at Popeye’s and Walmart to make ends meet while she fine-tuned her extraordinary talent as a burgeoning master hair stylist. She went on to attend Bowie State University, where she majored in Business Administration with a minor in Fashion Design, and eventually opened her own Salon, Madam D Beauty Bar, at 241 N Milton Ave in Baltimore. On December 21, 2019, Destiny was senselessly gunned down in front of her young daughter in her salon.
To honor her legacy, barbers, beauticians and community members are starting Destiny's Dream Scholarship fund to support students in the Mervo Cosmetology program. The scholarship will award $1,000 to five students each year to help cover expenses for uniforms, board certifications and the beauty kit each student needs to purchase to participate in the program.
Please help fund this scholarship in Destiny’s memory. Together, we can heal our city and work to break the cycle of trauma and violence that stole Destiny from us.
