About This Event
Join us for a special Third Friday event in which sound artists Regina Martinez (Selective Listening) and Belu-Olisa Sarkissian perform a live response piece to the audio exhibition.
––––––––––
Central to CAPE’s action research and arts integration methodology is methodology is documentation practice—a process through which our teachers and teaching artists capture and gather a range of classroom archival materials. This allows them to reflect on the activities offered to students while examining and substantiating how students respond through inquiry and creation. Because much of the creative process remains invisible and difficult to quantify, educators routinely record their classrooms using audio, video, and student interviews. These recordings form a substantial part of the CAPE archive and unlock a rich realm of sonic data—capturing student interviews, ambient classroom dialogue, and the often-overlooked soundscapes of hallways, playgrounds, and other learning environments.
For the exhibition A Murmur, a Mutter, a Roar, a Song: Learning the Sounds of the Classroom, teaching artists Fiorella Hilda Gomez Bermudez and Jordan Knecht are invited to reimagine these audio archives. By understanding the student voice as sonic, somatic, and embodied, the exhibition crafts immersive listening experiences that invite viewers into a shared dialogue surrounding student exploration, investigation, and world-making.
––––––––––
Accessibility Notice: This is an audio-based exhibition rather than a visual exhibition. The experience includes layered and immersive sounds that may be intense or sensorially challenging for some visitors. Please plan your visit according to your sensory needs.
