Edna's family wishes to honor her memory by encouraging donations to Snider, an organization that her three grandsons have been part of for 11 years. The below is written by her son, John.
Edna was born in Philadelphia and grew up in the Brewerytown neighborhood before moving and settling in with her husband in the Tacony neighborhood. She started working at the Philadelphia Zoo, which is where she met her future husband and was married for 50 years to him. She raised three sons Michael, John and Christopher. In 2021, she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and had surgery to remove the mass and began chemotherapy treatments shortly after. She fought like hell to win her battle against cancer and didn’t let it bring her or her spirits down.
If you were part of the Scanlon rink, you more than likely had the pleasure of knowing my mother, as she made friends with anyone that she met. Whether it was bringing her grandsons to practice, or being there to cheer them on at a game, you knew she was there because she was always cheering them on. If anyone ever looked like they needed help, she was there to give them the help they needed or was finding the right person that could help. Her three grandsons are all Breakaway Scholarship recipients and also, her grandson Taylan is a part-time coach at Scanlon and summer camps when not away at college. Edna passed away peacefully on May 16, 2024 and will forever be missed by her family and friends. We thank you for supporting youth sports in her honor.
