Creepy Conservation: Talking About Tarantulas with Dr. Steve Reichling
Just in time for Halloween, join Dr. Steve Reichling, Director of Conservation and Research at the Memphis Zoo, for a fascinating exploration of one of nature's most misunderstood creatures—the tarantula.
Discover the remarkable biology, behaviors, and diversity of these incredible arachnids while learning about the conservation challenges they face in the wild. Whether you're a lifelong spider enthusiast or simply curious about these eight-legged marvels, this program offers a unique opportunity to look beyond the myths and discover what makes tarantulas so extraordinary.
Steve Reichling has worked at the Memphis Zoo for 44 years. He is heavily involved in the captive management of reptiles and amphibians and their conservation in the wild, leading the zoo component of the recovery program for the critically endangered dusky gopher frog.
Dr. Reichling has authored, “Tarantulas of Belize” (Krieger Publ. Co, 2003), and has discovered and described four new species and one new genus from Central America. A genus of primitive spiders, Reichlingia, is named in his honor.
Our talk will begin at 6pm.
