Camp Create at the Museum of Art – DeLand is back for Summer 2026! Our 6-week summer camp program will be available for 6-12 year olds from June 8th – July 24th. Camp Create runs Monday-Friday from 9:00-4:00.

This summer, Camp Create student artists dive into a new art adventure each week! They’ll explore hands-on 2D and 3D projects, enjoy two daily art sessions, and take breaks for snacks, lunch, and games. Small groups ensure personalized attention, and no prior art experience is needed.

The themes change each week so Campers may register for more than one session. No previous art-making experience necessary! Visits to the Museum’s galleries will enhance the educational experience and provide additional motivation and inspiration. 

Camp Create 2026 Schedule

Week #1 Pop Art Palooza Week

June 8th-12th            

Join us for Pop Art Palooza Week, where color and creativity shine! Throughout the week, campers will dive into the world of Pop Art, learning how to transform everyday images into bold, graphic masterpieces inspired by famous artists like Andy Warhol and Keith Haring. Using bright paints, prints, and patterns, kids will experiment with color, repetition, and design to make their own pop-inspired creations. 

Week #2 Glow Week

June 15th-19th

Glow Week is all about lighting up your creativity! Campers will explore a radiant world of black lights, neon colors, and glow-in-the-dark paint to make art that truly shines. Inspired by bright and playful artists like Yayoi Kusama, Jen Stark, and Keith Haring, each day will bring a new glowing adventure. From sparkling galaxies and disco balls to luminous lava lamps and neon tie-dye, get ready for a week that glows with imagination!

Week#3 3D Art Week

June 22rd-26th

Step off the flat page and bring your art to life in 3D art Week! Campers will explore how 3D art fills space and plays with light and shadow using air-dry clay, carving tools, and papier-mâché. They’ll create reliefs, assemblages, and imaginative sculptures inspired by artists like Niki de Saint Phalle, Jean Dubuffet, and Nick Cave. Get ready to build, mold, and shape your ideas in every dimension!

Week #4 Palette & Pencil Week

July 6th-10th

Palette & Pencil Week invites young artists to explore the fun of drawing and painting in all kinds of styles! Campers will experiment with pencil, charcoal, watercolor, and acrylics while learning key skills like shading, blending, and perspective. Inspired by creative artists like Georgia O’Keeffe, Henri Matisse, and Faith Ringgold, they’ll discover new ways to express their artistic voice!

Week #5 Comic Craze Week

July 13th-17th

Comic Craze is an imaginative week where campers become comic artists and storytellers! Students will learn character design, speech bubbles, panel layouts, action scenes, and styles like classic comics and manga. By the end of the week, they’ll create their own mini-comic or graphic story to share!

Week #6 Urban Expressions Week

July 20st-24th

Students will dive into the exciting world of street Art as they explore graffiti, stenciling, murals, and sticker art. Campers will have the opportunity to design and “tag” their own creations. Join us this week and learn more about the styles and techniques used by street and mural artists in urban settings, such as Mina Hamada and BEZT (Etam Cru), and how they bring life to our cities.

 

Camp Create 2025 Registration Details

  • Camp Create sessions for 6-12 year olds run Monday – Friday 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Children must have finished Kindergarten to enroll..

  • Tuition per 5 day weekly session – $215 Members / $240 Non-members

Camp Policies

Cancellations and Refunds

  • No fees will be returned or credits issued for failure to attend.

  • There will be no make-up classes due to a student’s illness, unanticipated travel or other reasons not the responsibility of the Museum of Art – DeLand.

  • If a class is canceled, students will be notified at least two (2) days prior to the date of class, and tuition will be refunded. The Museum reserves the right to substitute teachers as needed.

  • A refund will be issued minus a $25 processing fee for cancellation up to 7 days prior to beginning of the session.  No refund will be issued after the 7 day deadline.

Check In/Check Out

  • Students cannot be dropped off more than 15 minutes before the start of class and students are to be picked up promptly after the end of class. Please let the museum staff know if you are running late. A fee of $1 per minute will be assessed for late pick up or early drop off.

  • Students can only be signed out by authorized adults with identification each day.

  • If any changes need to be made to authorized adults for pick up list, changes must be submitted in writing to Marisa Ingram.

Lunch/Snacks

  • Campers should bring two snacks, a lunch, and water bottle with them in clearly labeled containers each day. No refrigeration or microwave is available.

  • If your child needs any type of medications during camp, please see Marisa Ingram on Monday at check in.

Dress

  • Art camp is messy so please send your child with clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty.

  • Campers must wear close toed shoes each day. 

  • Please have your child leave all personal items at home, as we cannot be responsible for them.

Camp Create Teachers

Our teachers for Camp Create are all highly skilled and experienced art teachers. Read a little bit more about each of them below.

Katina Hurst is an Art Teacher at Freedom Elementary, and has been teaching for 8 years, 3 of them being in art. Art has been a lifelong passion of Katina’s, and she feels so lucky to be able to share that passion with students. In her spare time, Katina creates most of her own artwork using watercolors. When she is not teaching or creating, she spends time with her family, including painting her two young children. Katina is very excited to be teaching week 1 at Camp Create.

Tamera Dillen is an experienced Art Educator with 13 years of teaching experience in life skills and visual arts, including the past four years focused exclusively on art education. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with concentrations in Education and Art from the University of Central Florida. Tamera has worked with both self-contained and general education classrooms, supporting students across a wide range of ages, abilities, and learning styles. She is passionate about guiding students in self-expression through a variety of artistic techniques and mediums, creating an inclusive and encouraging environment where creativity can flourish. Tamera previously taught at Camp Create and is recognized for her ability to engage students while fostering confidence in their artistic process. Outside of the classroom, she enjoys outdoor activities such as gardening and hiking, attending concerts and festivals, and creating 2D landscape artwork. Tamera will be teaching week 2 of Camp Create

Jasmine Marsden is a dedicated Art Educator with over seven years of experience specializing in elementary arts education within the Volusia County Schools district. Her career is defined by a strong passion for fostering creativity and a commitment to supporting the holistic development of her students. She currently serves as the full-time Art Teacher at Timbercrest Elementary School, where she designs and implements comprehensive art curricula tailored to meet the developmental needs of young learners. Jasmine also holds a Master’s Degree in Counseling, a credential that meaningfully informs her teaching approach by emphasizing social-emotional learning and student-centered instruction. Jasmine will be teaching during week 3 of Camp Create.

Ashley Sutherland is an elementary Art Educator and graphic design professional who brings both strong studio training and engaging classroom experience to Camp Create. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design and currently teaches grades K–5, where she develops dynamic, theme-based lessons that foster creativity, critical thinking, and confidence in young artists. In addition to her classroom instruction, Ashley leads a weekly Art Club that provides students with opportunities to explore extended projects and experiment with a variety of artistic materials in a collaborative and imaginative environment. As a native of DeLand, Ashley values the important role that the Museum of Art – DeLand plays within the local arts community. She is enthusiastic, highly organized, and dedicated to creating meaningful, engaging, and memorable learning experiences that inspire creativity and artistic growth. Ashley will be teaching during week 4 of Camp Create.

Ashley Hess is the art teacher at Heritage Middle School, where she has been teaching since 2021. Prior to teaching in Volusia County, she worked as Museum Educator at the Louvre Abu Dhabi. She grew up in Georgia where she received a bachelor’s in Sequential Art from the Savannah College of Art and Design. She also holds a Masters of Archeology, Art History, and Museum Studies from Paris-Sorbonne University. She specializes in watercolor, acrylic, pen and ink, as well as mandala designs. Ashley has taught at Camp Create for the last 3 years. This summer, Ashley will be teaching week 5 of Camp Create.

Bryan Carson has been teaching Art Education for 23 years in Volusia County. He is also an after-school art teacher for the extended day program for 5 elementary schools. Throughout his career, he has mostly taught International Baccalaureate art program classes, and also teaches all levels of Photography, Drawing, and Design. When he is not teaching he creates his own artwork based on threatened and endangered animals, generally in the media of oil and acrylics. His other passion is travel and he has currently been to 52 different countries or territories. He has a strong desire to learn about diverse cultures throughout the world, experience various foods, and explore different landscapes below the surface of the ocean to the top of beautiful mountain peaks. Bryan will be teaching in week 6 of Camp Create.

 

Camp Create Staff

Marisa Ingram serves as the Associate Curator of Education at the Museum of Art – DeLand and is a coordinator for Camp Create. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art from Stetson University. As both an educator and practicing artist, Marisa brings a strong academic foundation and a thoughtful, interdisciplinary approach to arts education. Her solo exhibition, Recollection, examines the impact of harassment and Title IX on survivors and the education system, demonstrating her commitment to using art as a platform for dialogue, reflection, and social awareness. Her artistic practice spans a diverse range of media, including glass, carved wood, found objects, clothing, furniture, wire, fabric, tile, and oil paint, reflecting both technical versatility and conceptual depth. Marisa has taught visual art across all age levels and has educational experience within both Volusia County Schools and Seminole County Public Schools. She currently teaches and writes the curriculum for all of the Museum of Art- DeLand Studio Artists classes. She is deeply committed to fostering inclusive, supportive learning environments that encourage creativity, critical thinking, and self-expression. Through her work at the museum and within the classroom, Marisa strives to create meaningful artistic experiences that inspire confidence and cultivate lifelong engagement with the arts.

Madison Behling is a junior at Stetson University, pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education. She brings hands-on experience from assisting with dance instruction during high school and currently supports the Creative Compass program at the Museum of Art – DeLand, where she is also a Store Attendant in the Museum of Art Store. Madison is passionate about engaging with her community, and when she’s not studying or working, she enjoys spending meaningful time with family and friends. She will be Teaching Assistant each week at Camp Create.
