When David Padilla moved from his family home into a CP Unlimited residence, everything around him changed at once. New surroundings. New rhythms. New people. In moments like that, it’s easy to feel unsteady. What helped David wasn’t just programs or structure, but something deeply human: the ability to express himself, to create, and to feel a sense of control, calm, and purpose.
Transitions can be overwhelming, but creativity gave David something steady to hold onto.
Using popsicle sticks, rulers, glue, and remarkable patience, David builds intricate miniature houses, carefully framing each structure, measuring every line, and assembling rooms layer by layer. His designs feature spiral staircases, fireplaces, bathrooms, and multiple levels, all created entirely from his own imagination. “You could put a mouse in there, and it would be living like a king,” says Orville Bell, a longtime member of David’s circle of support, with a smile.

David’s discipline, creativity, and pride in his work inspire everyone around him. “He has determination like a carpenter,” Orville reflects. “There are times when he’s up until 4:00 in the morning, still putting those building blocks together. He works as if he’s on a deadline.” And when a house is finally complete, the impact is written all over David’s face. “You can see the accomplishment on him,” Orville shares. “He feels good about himself. He’s very proud of his work.”
In addition to his art, David enjoys keeping his house tidy, a good meal, and tuning into Spanish television. He is described by those closest to him as humble, loving, and deeply family oriented. Over the years, David has formed close bonds with the people who support him, including Orville, who refers to him as “like a brother.”
With staff that stay, and support that fosters creativity, CP Unlimited creates consistent, caring spaces where people can thrive, express themselves, and live with dignity. With your help, talents like David’s can be nurtured, shared, and celebrated.
