Grass Identification Walk with Sarah Wood

Registration ends Thursday, 08/27/2026 12:00pm MDT

Only 4 tickets left!

About This Event

Take a slow walk at Dovetail to explore the ecology, life history, and identities of the beautiful grasses of the short-grass prairie. You will have the opportunity to collect grass samples for your own take-home reference. Sarah Wood will be our guide.

Sarah Wood grew up in New Mexico and studied biology and plant ecology at UNM and NMSU. She lived and worked throughout New Mexico with the US Forest Service and New Mexico Natural Heritage Program as a field biologist; and with New Mexico State Parks for 17 years as an informal educator. Now retired, she enjoys doing the same things she did when working, as well as hiking, rafting, exploring New Mexico, and fixing things.

The walk is limited to 15 people. Supplies for grass samples will be provided. Please bring sun protection, water, and wear sturdy shoes. Some off-trail walking may occur.
