About This Event
Persona Poems: Writing Through the Eyes of Another
July 30, 6–9 PM
Join resident artist Pangea Kali Virga and Nico Hough for an interactive evening of exhibition exploration, creative writing, and poetry performance. Beginning with a casual, discussion-based tour of the exhibition, participants will engage with the artworks and themes of identity, perspective, and self-representation.
Drawing inspiration from the exhibition, attendees will write persona poems, poems written in the voice of another, from the perspective of an artist and an artwork of their choice. The evening will conclude with a collaborative poetry reading in which participants read one another’s poems aloud, creating unexpected connections between writer, reader, artist, and audience.
Pangea Kali Virga, (b.1991), is a fiber artist, sustainability advocate, lecturer, arts event producer, filmmaker, and educator, sharing her expertise and art with hundreds of Miamians of all ages and backgrounds. Her art is deeply rooted in social responsibility and environmentalism, as she seeks to convey urgent and complex messages in ways that are both beautiful and engaging. Through layered fiber artworks, dramatic experiential art and performances, free public sustainable art and skills workshops, and collaborative projects with public and private institutions, she brings these themes to life. Pangea is a current resident artist at Oolite Arts and past resident artist at the Deering Estate, Foundation House, ProjectArt, and Peter Bullough Foundation. Her work has been exhibited at Vizcaya Museum, MOCA, Dot 51 Gallery, CAMP Gallery, Club Gallery, and elsewhere. She has produced public arts programs at Vizcaya Museum, the Design District, and Collins Park, Miami Beach, Deering Estate, and locations nationwide.
Nico Hough, (b. 1988) is a writer, art consultant, artist, and collector. He studied Philosophy at the University of Massachusetts. He has worked with the Cernuda Arte gallery for over six years, including three as vice director, during which he has written more than 100 essays on Cuban art and participated in over 20 international art fairs. Since relocating to Miami in 2019, he has collaborated with national arts nonprofits such as Oolite Arts and ProjectArt; published two books of poetry; contributed to the Exoterica literary anthology (Cantine Press, Berekely, CA, 2025); given readings throughout Miami, and in Mexico City and San Francisco. He leads the Miami Poet Office, a series of bilingual public poetry workshops since 2023. His most recent curated exhibition, Piecework Legacies and corresponding book of the same name is currently on view at the Miami-Dade Public Library.
