"Liam is a very unique little boy. He was diagnosed with autism at the age of 2. His parents suspected it, but this diagnosis confirmed it. Thanks to FEAT of Louisville Liam’s mom and dad learned about several different resources they could use to help Liam on his journey through life with autism, and now after 4 weeks at Hopebridge ABA therapy Liam’s voice is being heard as he says a variety of words and even sings and signs the wheels on the bus. Liam’s father, Spencer Hodge is a founding member of The Shepherd’s Staff Motorcycle Ministry and is deeply devoted to helping Liam and other children with autism which is exactly why he partnered with the AMAZING people at FEAT, to organize Liam’s All REVVED UP for autism awareness benefit ride. 100% of the proceeds will go to FEAT to help them on their mission of helping families just like Liam. If you ever get to meet Liam you will never forget him, he is a very happy little boy that loves with all his heart. He loves playing in water, singing and playing his guitar."
Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is group of complex disorders of brain development. These disorders are characterized, in varying degrees, by difficulties in social interaction, verbal and nonverbal communication and repetitive behaviors. Autism is referred to as a spectrum disorder due to the range of severity within the diagnostic boundaries. FEAT of Louisville's mission is to Ease the autism journey through a community network created for families by families by providing ongoing support, education, programs and resources. We work with families and other providers in the Kentuckiana area in many capacities. Currently, with 1 in 31 children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), the need for a continuum of support is great. This statistic, released by the CDC in 2023, is an increase from the previous rate of 1 in 44 children, reflecting an overall improvement in outreach, screening, and de-stigmatization of autism diagnosis in the population and especially among minority communities.
Families for Effective Autism Treatment (FEAT) of Louisville was founded in 1999 by a group of parents searching for answers to their children's complex medical problems and educational needs. FEAT's program include: • Providing support meetings/training to our 5000+ membership to address treatment options, social outings, educational rights and legislative issues; • Expanding the Endeavor Program (an educational program for children with autism ages 2-6 in collaboration with Carriage House), Dreams In Motion summer camp (recreational, therapeutic, educational and social summer camp for ages 7-21 in collaboration with Dreams With Wings) and the Get Your FEAT Wet swim program (in collaboration with All About Kids, Home of the Innocents, Aqua Tots and Goldfish Swim Schools) for individuals with autism ages 3+; • Educating the public on awareness and acceptance of autism spectrum disorder, including specialized programs in the local schools for typically developing peers.
