About This Course
BAWT's Hiking Leadership Training (HLT)
The HLT is a day-long introductory course that covers all the basic skills you will need to successfully take youth on day hikes. During the course, you will learn by doing and practice the skills you need to walk and hike in natural settings and to plan and facilitate hikes for groups of youth. Skills covered include trail games, hike planning, basic map and navigation skills, outdoor stewardship ethics (Leave No Trace), risk management for day hiking, and more.

Hiking gear is available and included if you would like to borrow any from BAWT for the training (boots, hiking poles, clothing, and day packs).
No previous experience is necessary. We welcome whatever experience you bring, from those who have never gone hiking before to those who have spent extensive time hiking in the outdoors. We're looking forward to going outside with you!
