Dig In & Force Blooms: Community Bulb Planting Day

About This Event

Join us for a fun, hands-on Bulb Planting Volunteer Day and help bring our upcoming Spring Flower Show to life!

Whether you're an experienced gardener or completely new to planting, this workshop and workday will teach you the art and science of forcing spring bulbs in pots - a trick used by horticulturists to achieve early, vibrant blooms.

What You'll Learn & Do:

  • Hands-On Demonstration: Learn step-by-step techniques for potting, chilling, and forcing spring bulbs so they bloom right on cue.
  • Support Our Spring Flower Show: Help us prepare and pot the bulbs that will serve as the star attraction in our annual spring display.
  • Take Home Your Own Pot: Apply what you've learned on-site and take home your very own potted bulbs to force and enjoy in your own home.

A light lunch will be provided for all volunteers to relax, recharge, and connect with fellow community members.

Event Details:

Date: October 18, 2026

Time: 10 am - 2 pm

Location: Potawatomi Conservatories Hoop House

Cost: Free (Registration required so we can plan for lunch and supplies)

What To Bring: Gardening gloves and a trowel if you want one.  Please wear comfortable clothing you don't mind getting dirty and dress in layers.
