WRITE EFFORT: Creative Writing Through a Buddhist Lens
June 20, 2026 (2:00-5:00 pm)
Location: The Blake Lofts (Frogtown Arts Headquarters)
1901 Blake Ave Los Angeles 90039 (check in at front entrance)
Join us for an engaging creative writing workshop with renowned author and educator Noel Alumit at our headquarters along the LA River in Frogtown.
WRITE EFFORT, creative writing through a Buddhist lens, grew out of Noel Alumit’s graduate studies in Buddhist chaplaincy at the University of the West.
WRITE EFFORT is a play on words referring to Right Effort, the sixth of the Noble Eightfold Path. By using Buddhist concepts (meditation, Four Noble Truths, impermanence, compassion), Noel addresses the creative process of storytelling: character development, plot, conflict, dialogue, structure.
About Noel Alumit:
Noel Alumit has a BFA in Drama and a Master of Divinity in Buddhist Chaplaincy. He's the bestselling author of "Talking to the Moon," "Letters to Montgomery Clift" and the short story collection "Music Heard in Hi-Fi." He was an Associate Editor at Lion's Roar, North America's largest Buddhist magazine. He has taught at UCLA, Beyond Baroque, and Uwest. He has had the honor of winning the Stonewall Book Award from the American Library Association, named one of Out magazine's "OUT 100" and was a COLA fellow.
He is the co-founder of OFFUS, an artist-run space in DTLA.
