When Sarah, a mom of two, discovered Sustainable Food Center’s (SFC) The Happy Kitchen / La Cocina Alegre®’s Cooking After Cancer class, she felt a moment of clarity and hope.
Made possible by supporters like you, this free, six-week cooking and nutrition course—and others like it offered by SFC—helps families across Texas heal and connect through food.
“It felt like a lightning bolt—I thought, ‘That’s me! That’s what I’ve been searching for.’” said Sarah.
Your generosity gives families like Sarah’s the tools, knowledge, and community to feed themselves and their loved ones with confidence.
When Sarah’s sister was diagnosed with breast cancer a year ago, she wanted to support her. For Sarah, food is love in action. SFC’s Cooking After Cancer class showed her how to cook in ways that could truly heal, nourish, and bring joy to her sister.
By the end of the six weeks, she had a notebook full of recipes she could share with her sister. Sarah walked away with a sense of community and the reminder that food is about more than nutrition. It’s about healing, connection, and hope.
Now more than ever, courses like Cooking After Cancer are essential. Rising rates of chronic illness and food insecurity mean many need guidance on preparing nourishing, fresh meals at home.
Thanks to donors like you, families across Texas are learning to prepare wholesome meals and care for their loved ones through The Happy Kitchen / La Cocina Alegre® classes. Yet many more still need these classes. Your gift makes this possible.
Thanks to a generous match from SFC partner Austin Wine and Food Foundation, all gifts made before December 31 will be doubled, up to $25,000.
