Presented by Gullah Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor Commission

North Carolina Summit/Black Church Crawl

About This Event

Join us for the North Carolina Summit on April 18, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This special gathering is designed to celebrate, preserve, and amplify Gullah Geechee history, culture, and community in North Carolina.

This year’s Summit will feature a Black Church Crawl, a guided and immersive experience through historic Black churches in Wilmington, North Carolina. These sacred spaces have long served as centers of worship, education, cultural preservation, and community leadership, and they remain vital to the life of the region today. Participants will explore the history and significance of these churches while learning about their deep connections to Gullah Geechee heritage and North Carolina’s rice culture. The Summit offers a meaningful opportunity to reflect on the enduring role of Black churches in preserving history, strengthening community, and shaping cultural legacy.

Presenters: Tyanna Parker-West, Derrick Parker, Cedric Harrison

Reaves Chapel, St. Stephen AME, and Chestnut Presbyterian are three of the churches included in the tour.

REGISTRATION COSTS $25.00 PER PERSON - LUNCH AND TRANSPORTATION ARE INCLUDED.
