Three weeks ago, a 3-month-old puppy named Goose arrived at Texas Humane Heroes with injuries so severe that euthanasia was recommended.

The photo below captures the moment our Medical Director climbed into Goose's kennel and made a promise:

"We're going to try to save your life."

After a veterinary evaluation, we learned Goose had a shattered pelvis and complete fractures of both her tibias and fibulas.

Despite the severity of her injuries, Goose was given a chance.

Instead of saying goodbye, a treatment plan was developed to manage her pain, stabilize her injuries, and give her young body an opportunity to heal.

Today, three weeks later, Goose is proving that chance was worth taking.

She still has at least six more weeks of recovery ahead of her, and there is still a possibility that one leg may need to be amputated. But today, she is expected to survive.

Recovery requires medications, follow-up examinations, bandage and splint changes, diagnostic imaging, and ongoing veterinary care.
