Registration Information

Who?

Anyone from any school and any level is invited to participate and have fun all while helping community members in need. This is an "absolute" only competition which means there are no weight/age/level divisions - just ONE division. Kids are welcome to sign up if their parents sign off, however they will be competing against adults.

Spectators are encouraged to come and support their friends, support Homeward Bound and simply have a good time supporting the Asheville BJJ community.

What?

The scoring system identically follows the IBJJF rule set, as you would see it implemented in the brown/black belt no-gi divisions, with some notable exceptions, regarding grips and uniforms (see below).

Competitors are encouraged to get creative with their attire: tuxedos, prom dresses, Halloween costumes… it’s all good! During the competition, fighters are allowed to grab, pull and twist on anything attached to their opponents’ bodies (with the exception of rash guards and other undergarments) so please avoid wearing anything sharp or otherwise hazardous to grapplers. Furthermore, Open Source Jiu-Jitsu will provide backup attire should you not have an outfit or if your clothes get torn badly during competition.

When?

Saturday, October 25, 2025 ~ Time: 4:00-6:00 PM. Competitors must arrive between 3:00-3:30 PM to go over the rules, warm up, ask questions and meet-and-greet. We'll probably wrap up by 6:00 PM-ish.
