Wildflower Walk at Fall Creek Falls in Mayo River State Park 4/4/26

About This Event

Step into early spring with a guided hike led by PLC’s Conservation Advisor, Dr. Ken Bridle, one of our most knowledgeable and engaging naturalists. This immersive outing explores one of the region’s premier destinations for spring wildflower viewing, when the forest floor briefly comes alive with delicate, short-lived ephemerals.

Ken will guide the group on a partially off-trail, approximately 1.5-mile loop that winds through a variety of landscapes. Departing from the parking area at 9:00 a.m., the route climbs into the Virginia portion of the park, descends to the river, follows the water to Falls Creek, ascends to the Falls, and returns to the starting point. Expect a mix of wooded off-trail travel, riverside walking, and a short stretch along a public road. This hike is considered moderate to strenuous and is best suited for those comfortable with uneven terrain.

Along the way, Ken will help participants spot, identify, and appreciate early spring ephemeral wildflowers, sharing insights about their ecology, timing, and the unique conditions that allow them to thrive.

This outing is open to the public and limited to 25 participants. Space is limited. Sign up soon and come ready to explore, learn, and see spring at its most fleeting and beautiful.
