Presented by Central Algoma Land Trust

City Nature Challenge: Thessalon Coastal Trail

About This Event

The City Nature Challenge began in 2016 as a friendly competition between two cities. Since then, it has grown into a global event! Towards the end of April every year, cities around the world work to document as much wildlife as possible. Participants simply find wildlife, snap photos, and share their observations to the iNaturalist app. The information collected helps researchers better understand biodiversity and how people and nature coexist. The event also demonstrates what can be accomplished when communities work together!

The Central Algoma Land Trust is excited to once again take part in the local City Nature Challenge. We will be leading a bioblitz-style outing on along the Thessalon Coastal Trail. Participants will explore the trail looking for wildlife, signs of wildlife, plants, and fungi.

If you plan to attend, please download the free iNaturalist app, create an account, and join the City Nature Challenge 2026: Algoma District, ON, Canada & Chippewa County, MI, USA project before the event. This will help us start exploring and recording observations right away.

This outing is open to the public to attend at no cost, but we do encourage you to become a member if you are not one already.

Please register in advance. For more information, please contact Jazmin at jazmin@calt.ca or 705-782-2200.
