Ape-ology - In the Field - Nutrition

Only 5 tickets left!

About This Event

Step behind the scenes at the Center for Great Apes for a fascinating Ape-ology: In the Field session focused on one of the most essential parts of sanctuary life—nutrition.

Our orangutan and chimpanzee residents receive carefully planned daily diets designed to support their individual health needs, preferences, and life stages. From fresh produce and leafy greens to specially prepared items, every meal is thoughtfully formulated and prepared by our dedicated team.

During this special Ape-ology experience, participants will gain a deeper look at how our apes’ diets are created from start to finish. You’ll learn how meals are planned, prepared, and fed out—and why nutrition plays such a critical role in physical health, enrichment, and overall well-being.

What makes this Ape-ology: In the Field unique is its behind-the-scenes focus:
🥕 Visits to two orangutan areas and two chimpanzee areas
🥕 The rare opportunity to tour our Nutrition Center building
🥕 First-hand insights from our Nutrition Center Team
🥕 Time with caregivers to hear stories and ask questions
🥕 The chance to observe lunchtime as meals are handed out to our orangutan and chimpanzee residents

Participants will have the opportunity to:
🍎 Learn how daily diets are formulated to meet each ape’s individual needs
🍎 See how meals are prepared with care, variety, and intention
🍎 Watch lunch being distributed and observe how different apes engage with their food
🍎 Hear directly from caregivers and nutrition staff about feeding routines, favorite foods, and dietary considerations

This session offers a meaningful glimpse into the thoughtful planning and teamwork that goes into nourishing over 70 great apes every single day—and how mealtime itself supports choice, enrichment, and connection.

Don’t miss this rare opportunity to experience sanctuary nutrition up close and gain a deeper appreciation for the care that goes into every bite.

Minimum Age: 15 years
Limited to: 20 participants
