Some events are larger than life and stretch to every corner of the globe. Such was the case for the sinking of the Titanic in 1912 - one survivor, Edwina Troutt MacKenzie, went on to live in Hermosa Beach and share her story until she was 100 years old! Join renowned Titanic historian Don Lynch at the Hermosa Beach Museum from 6-8pm Friday, October 16, to hear her story and more tales from the Titanic!

Statement from the Speaker:
Don Lynch has been the official Historian for the Titanic Historical Society for a number of decades. In 1992 he wrote the text for the book Titanic - An Illustrated History, which went on to spend twelve weeks on the New York Times’ best seller list. Director James Cameron hired Don as the historian for his movie, Titanic, and in the summer of 2001 hired Don as consultant to his Ghosts of the Abyss project, where they dove to the Titanic in a Russian submersible to film the wreck for his 3-D, large format documentary. Don wrote the text for the companion book, Ghosts of the Abyss, and most recently was a contributor for the James Cameron book, Exploring the Deep – The Titanic Expeditions.
While living in the South Bay in the 1980s, Don became friends with Titanic survivor Edwina Troutt MacKenzie of Hermosa Beach. He organized her 100th birthday celebration at the Clark Building in 1984 and was one of the pall bearers at her funeral. Using photographs and memorabilia her family discarded, he has put together a presentation about her life and times, and her miraculous survival of the 1912 sinking of the Titanic on its maiden voyage.
