About This Event
Current Status of Law to Support Disability Inclusion
Too often, disability gets treated like it's a dirty secret, something about which to feel embarrassed or ashamed. Nothing could be farther from the truth. Indeed, you might be surprised to learn that under the law, YOU might be among those who can identify as having a disability.
In the legal profession, it's surprising how much about disability we don't know that we don't know. Moreover, at a time when the competition for talent is fierce, when technology is as sophisticated as it is, and when remote/hybrid work has been shown to actually work, it's further surprising how many employers are missing out on hiring and retaining brilliant talent because of misperceptions and biases about how those with disabilities can perform and compete with those who may have no visible disability.
October is Disability Employment Awareness Month. Join IILP as we celebrate Disability Employment Awareness Month with a fireside chat between two attorneys with decades of experience in the field of disability law.
This webinar will cover the relevant legal provisions, both state and federal, relevant to the employment of people with disabilities. We will discuss ways the law has created change for people with disabilities, but also areas where the Americans with Disabilities Act may have been less effective than its supporters had hoped. We will also discuss the relationship between employment and other important areas of access for people with disabilities, including transportation, healthcare, and other social supports.
Speakers:
Michael Stein
Executive Director, Harvard Law School Project on Disability.
Michael Waterstone
Dean, UCLA School of Law
