This year's Freedom Day event promises an inspiring exploration of how Harriet Tubman’s fearless leadership and strategic brilliance helped build a thriving workforce and economy in Historic Mitchelville.

Dr. Edda Fields-Black Wesley Wofford
 
SCAD Bee Sharps
Dr. Edda Fields-Black is a leading Harriet Tubman scholar and author with deep ancestral ties to the Combahee River Raid. Her work illuminates the pivotal moments in history that led to liberation and economic empowerment. Wesley Wofford is a celebrated sculptor whose work brings untold stories of our collective history to life, including his renowned sculpture Harriet Tubman – The Journey to Freedom.
 
The SCAD Bee Sharps are the university's premier student vocal ensemble. Specializing in a range of musical genres, from Great American Songbook classics to popular spirituals and today’s pop hits, these elite SCAD student performers from around the U.S. do it all: sing, dance, and dazzle! Whether they are backed by a four-piece band or singing alongside SCAD alum and American Idol winner Candice Glover (B.F.A., dramatic writing, 2022), the SCAD Bee Sharps are a must-see.
