Dig Into History!

This year’s focus is on archaeology, offering kids a unique opportunity to become junior archaeologists for the day. Through interactive activities, students will uncover the fascinating stories buried in the very soil where America's first self-governed town of freedmen once thrived.
What to Expect
- Archaeological digs and artifact discovery activities
- Hands-on exhibits exploring how archaeology helps us tell Mitchelville’s story
- Craft stations inspired by historical finds
- Guided exploration of the park’s historic landmarks
- Games and challenges to test observation and problem-solving skills
Children will learn how history is preserved, uncovered, and honored—all while having fun outdoors. This event is perfect for families looking for a meaningful, educational, and adventurous way to celebrate Juneteenth.
Additional Information
- Free to attend, but registration is required.
- Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
- Wear comfortable clothing and shoes for outdoor activities, and don't forget water bottles and sunscreen!
