About This Event
Join us to Celebrate our Real Community Heroes!
This celebration and fundraiser honors real community heroes who dedicate their time and energy to making our community a safer and more affordable place to live.
Each years heroes are chosen by the previous year’s winners. This grassroots approach focuses on individuals who are working on the ground in our community, creating an uplifting and illuminating cycle of these everyday heroes.
The event includes signature beverages, yummy refreshments, and our ever-popular raffle baskets and silent auction!
A Different Kind of Awards Celebration
Real Community Heroes isn't your typical awards gala. While many events recognize well-known leaders or major donors, we shine a spotlight on the people doing the quiet, transformative work in our community—often behind the scenes.
Our Unique Selection Process
What sets us apart is who chooses our honorees. We don't have a committee or board making selections. Instead, each year's Real Community Heroes select the following year's honorees. This grassroots, peer-to-peer approach creates a beautiful chain of recognition that honors the people who are truly in the trenches—the case workers, the advocates, the small business owners, the program managers, and the volunteers who show up day after day.
Our 2025 Heroes chose our 2026 Heroes. Our 2026 Heroes will choose our 2027 Heroes. And so on.
This creates an ever-expanding circle of recognition that stays grounded in the real work happening in Thurston and Mason County to address homelessness and housing insecurity.
Why This Matters
When heroes recognize heroes, something special happens. The people being honored aren't seeking recognition—they're nominated by peers who witness their impact firsthand. These are individuals who:
- Work directly with families experiencing housing insecurity
- Create innovative solutions on limited budgets
- Show up consistently, even when the work is hard
- Lead with compassion and dedication rather than titles or accolades
- Build community from the ground up
You won't necessarily see their names in the newspaper or on corporate donor walls. But you'll see their impact in the lives they touch every single day.
An Evening of Authentic Connection
This year's gala format reflects our values: elegant yet accessible, celebratory yet purposeful. We've moved away from traditional live auctions to create space for meaningful conversation, inspiring stories, and genuine community connection. While we're adding upscale touches and signature cocktails, the heart remains the same—honoring everyday people doing extraordinary work.
When you attend Real Community Heroes, you're not just witnessing an awards ceremony. You're becoming part of a movement that recognizes that creating change doesn't require a title or a platform. It requires showing up, caring deeply, and doing the work.
