All Rise: A Virtual Workshop to Help Men in the Law Beat Burnout and Thrive as Happy Attorneys and Inclusive Leaders
Coming soon: Regional programs to support the wellbeing of men who are attorneys.
Many men in the legal profession are struggling today–at work and beyond. They are wrestling with burnout from factors including long hours, intense pressure to achieve and uncertainty over the impact of AI on the profession. The long-overdue reckoning over privilege and bias in recent years can feel like yet another source of stress.
Men in the law socialized to be stoic, individually successful “self-made men” can find contemporary calls to embrace compassion, collaboration, and equity confusing. And older men are often at a loss for how to relate to and motivate younger colleagues who expect emotional expressivity and an egalitarian culture.
Many lawyers who are men also find it hard to build positive bonds with their families, thanks to 50+ hour workweeks and the difficulty of shifting from an adversarial mindset on the job to a more affectionate one at home.
It doesn’t have to be that way.
Life – including a lawyer’s worklife – can be happy, healthy, and emotionally satisfying but it will take the legal profession as a whole to make adjustments to accomplish this so that it becomes the norm rather than the exception.
In honor of National Wellness Awareness Month, the Institute for Inclusion in the Legal Profession (IILP) is offering this virtual workshop to support the wellbeing of men in the law. The 60-minute session is designed to help men beat burnout and thrive as happy attorneys and inclusive leaders.
The workshop is open to all. It will focus in part on how women in the law can support colleagues who are men. After all, when attorneys who are men flourish, they can better contribute to a profession where all can rise.
Key Takeaways:
—How men in the law face old and new pressures that can lead to unhappiness, burnout and other mental health challenges.
—How conventional, “confined” views of manhood–views held by people of all genders–limit mens’ ability to be vulnerable, to develop emotional intelligence and build inclusive leadership skills.
—Practical ways men in the law can evolve and expand their notions of masculinity for greater personal happiness and wellbeing, improved professional resilience and more effective, inclusive leadership.
WHEN: August 12, 2026 1 - 2 pm CT; 11 am -12 pm PT

The All Rise extended program in different regions will include 5 virtual meetings and an in-person capstone gathering over the course of three months. Ed and Jeremiah will facilitate the experience, building off a successful pilot program IILP hosted in 2024 and that was described in a NALP Bulletin article. Attorneys of all genders are invited to apply to participate in the new All Rise extended program.
