About This Event
Written as a musical response to the tragic 1998 killing of gay Wyoming college student Matthew Shepard, composer Craig Hella Johnson’s full-length concert work offers a poignant yet hopeful message about the importance of tolerance, peace and community. It’s a work for “All of Us,” containing a rich tapestry of musical styles, and texts from contemporary news accounts of the crime, poetry by Lesléa Newman, Rumi and more.
We believe singing is for everyone – this performance is a pay-what-you-can event because we aspire to dismantle inequities in the arts and make choral singing truly accessible for all. The lowest-priced tickets for this event are set at $5, but if this is not possible for you, please reach out to us by emailing info@indychoir.org.
While the lowest ticket price is set at $5, we encourage you to consider making an additional donation (whether that’s a small gift of $10 or our suggested donation of $40 as regular tickets would be $45) to help cover the true cost of this event. Programming like this is only possible because of patrons like you, and your generosity will ensure we can continue to share the joy and beauty of choral music with our entire community and beyond.
Join Us for a Sweet Ending to the Evening
Following the October 18 concert, all guests are warmly invited to stay for a 30-minute dessert and beverage reception in the Parish Hall. This special gathering will benefit Trinity Haven, Indianapolis’ only housing program dedicated to supporting LGBTQ+ youth at risk of homelessness.
Enjoy treats and refreshments while hearing brief remarks from Artistic Director Eric Stark and Jenni White, Founding Executive Director of Trinity Haven. Your presence helps make a meaningful difference in our Indianapolis community.
