About This Event

For the fourth and last 2026 InsiderOutsider program in collaboration with Ma's House we welcome Kindall Gant for an immersive eco-creation workshop that brings together poetry writing and visual collage, inviting attendees to experiment with layering language and image as a way of generating something new. A guided walk through the sculpture garden sets the creative process in motion, as participants pause, observe, and absorb the textures, forms, and seasonal rhythms of the land, letting personal responses to the environment take root in new work. Participants will have access to a full range of traditional craft and collage materials, including magazines, books, and other ephemera to draw from and incorporate into their creation. Whether you arrive as a writer, a visual artist, or simply someone curious about making, this workshop invites you to slow down, look closely, and let the garden lead toward intuitive, meditative experimentation.

Kindall Gant is a Black femme interdisciplinary poet and New Orleans native based in Brooklyn. She experiments with visual storytelling as liberation bringing poems into conversation with expressive forms like film, visual art, music and photography. They have received support from Cave Canem, the Poetry Foundation, MASS MoCA, the Saltonstall Foundation, the Watering Hole, Studio Museum in Harlem, the Guggenheim, and Ma's House among other arts institutions. Her poetry has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize, Best of the Net and appears or is forthcoming in SeedlingsTORCH1619 SpeaksBrooklyn Poets, The Poetry Society of New York's Milk PressObsidian and WSQ published by the Feminist Press.

InsiderOutsider: New Voices in the Art World is a dynamic series spotlighting underrepresented artists who challenge convention, expand the boundaries of contemporary art, and invite deeper dialogue. It is presented in collaboration with Jeremy Dennis and the artists-in-residence of Ma’s House, a center for Indigenous and BIPOC artists. Together, we explore the creative practices and personal narratives shaping today’s evolving art landscape through conversation and hands-on creativity.

Made possible with public funding provided by Suffolk County Department of Economic Development and Planning, with the support of County Legislator Ann Welker, and by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature. Additional funding for this program comes from Vital Projects Fund.
