Dr. Shari Tarver Behring, former Dean of the Michael D. Eisner College of Education at CSUN
Dr. Shari Tarver Behring earned a Master of Science degree in Clinical Psychology from Marquette University, and a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. She is a California Licensed Psychologist, a National Board-Certified Counselor, and holds California Credentials in School Psychology and School Counseling.

During her time as Dean, she has supported 32 credential pathways in one of the largest Colleges of Education in the CSU, championed college faculty and staff as leaders of educational initiatives addressing social justice, diversity, equity, access, and inclusion, and supervised 6 departments and 11 centers providing outstanding counseling, academic, and deaf studies educational programs to students and comprehensive services to thousands in schools and the community.
The College of Education has been a leader in the university in receiving philanthropic gifts and external grants, especially for the Strength United Center, during her time as Dean. Shari has developed, collaborated, and presented on programs for self-care in higher education, including the CSUN-wide Campus Care Recovery Program following COVID and the College of Education Self-Care for You at Northridge Program (CSUN SUN Program) for the last 12 years. She has a special place in her heart for services with preschool children and their families and has been an avid supporter of the CHIME inclusion preschool as well as multiple early childhood credential and Master’s degree programs. Shari is deeply committed to the arts both at CSUN and in her personal life. She has supported the Arts Education programs at the Younes and Soraya Nazarian Center for the Performing Arts and serves on the Executive Circle. She is currently working with colleagues on a partnership with CalArts to create a student pipeline for the College of Education Arts, Music, and Dance Credential Programs in response to the deficit of teachers in these fields. Shari ardently believes that her career at CSUN has been one big amazing, wonderful journey. She is especially grateful for the love and support from campus-wide and community colleagues and friends, many who are here today.

Established in 1990, CHIME Institute is a national leader in the development and delivery of quality inclusive education, allowing children who develop typically, children with disabilities and children who are gifted, to learn side by side.
Our early education program and TK-8 independent charter school serves over 800 children from birth to eight grade and their families. In a partnership with the College of Education at California State University, Northridge (CSUN) our professional development program demonstrates our unique educational model, inspiring educators from around the world.
Our work is grounded in over 30 years of research and the belief that when we set an expectation for all children to reach their full potential, we are honoring our promise to families and to society. The science of inclusive education not only creates better opportunities for children to grow in all developmental areas, but also fosters a culture of greater compassion and empathy.
