Ivey Ranch is a Certified Horsemanship Association (CHA) and Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship (PATH) Premier Accredited Equestrian Facility.  We host horseback riding therapy for clients with special needs and different abilities. Our volunteers are how we can serve this special community. Volunteers not only help care for the horses but help our riders have their riding experience. An equestrian volunteer has the option to participate in several programs depending on their age and availability.

All volunteers must register for a Volunteer Orientation in advance. Volunteers who are not registered will not be allowed to attend. 

All you need to know for Volunteer Orientation

Check-In at Orientation

Check-in at the picnic table 15 minutes before orientation. Late arrivals/check-ins are not permitted. If you are still looking for parking at the start time or not at the check-in area, you are considered late and you will be turned away and asked to re-register for a future orientation. 

Parking and Meeting

Once you turn onto the property from Rancho Del Oro Drive, you will drive straight past Casa De Amparo and Canine Companions for Independence (CCI). Look for the picnic table on the right between the two speed bumps.

The parking spaces closest to the check-in area fill up quickly so please allow yourself plenty of time to park and walk over to the check-in area before the start time. Park in designated parking spaces only. Do not park in fire lanes or in Canine Companions for Independence's parking lot. 

How to Dress

Wear full-length pants or jeans and closed-toe shoes (sturdy sneakers or boots). Shorts, cropped pants, capris, sandals, and flip-flops are not permitted. Volunteers arriving in improper attire will not be allowed in the barn or arena.

Minor Volunteers

Volunteers ages 9–13 must have a parent or guardian present for the full duration of orientation, parents cannot wait in the car. Volunteers ages 14-17 years old do not need an adult present. Please note that any minor with special needs will need the presence of a parent or guardian during orientation.

Volunteers ages 9-13 years old will need a parent or guardian with them for the duration of orientation, the parent cannot be waiting in the car. 

Volunteers with Special Needs

Any volunteer with special needs will need to be able to function in a group setting with minimal supervision. If they are not able to perform their tasks in a group setting then they will need a "buddy". Their "buddy" can either be their parent or their guardian that has also participated in orientation who is able to work side by side with them and help them with their tasks.

After Attending Volunteer Orientation

Volunteer Shifts

Volunteers will sign up for volunteer shifts through our website. You will not be able to sign up for shifts until after you have successfully completed Volunteer Orientation.

Signing In and Out

Ivey Ranch uses an email-based sign-in/sign-out system. Volunteers will use their email address to sign themselves in/out. This system will default to the email address used during registration. 

If minors have an email address different from their parent that was not used during registration, please contact us so we can update it in our system. 

If minors do not have a separate email address than their parent/guardian/authorized representative, we will create a faux email address for them to use. We will share this email will you.
