Celebrate Earth Week with the Conservancy of the Sea Islands!

Spend the week exploring and celebrating the beauty of our natural world. Enjoy daily Earth Week programs, including guided walks, talks with local experts, and interactive experiences that showcase the unique ecosystems of our Sea Islands.

Don't miss the grand finale—our Earth Day Celebration!

All programs are free and open to the public, so bring your friends and family and celebrate the unique coastal landscapes and wildlife of our Sea Islands.

 

Saturday, April 18 | Island Litter Sweep
9:00am - 11:00am | Mingo Point (876 Kiawah Island Parkway)

Registration not required. All pickup materials will be provided.


Together with Conservancy of the Sea Islands, South Carolina Aquaiurm, and dedicated volunteers, we'll meet in the parking lot of Mingo Point before dividing into small groups to clean up nearby areas. Invite your family, friends, and neighbors to help remove unwanted debris across our Sea Islands.

 

Monday, April 20 | Bluebird Walk
2:30pm - 3:30pm | Locations vary

Registration is required.


Bluebird box monitoring volunteers will lead a one-hour guided walk to visit bluebird nest boxes they help monitor. Along the way, learn about the important role these boxes play in supporting the Eastern bluebird population and the conservation efforts that help these beloved birds thrive. Participants can choose from three walk locations: Kiawah River on Johns Island, The Sanctuary on Kiawah Island, or The Lake House on Seabrook Island. More location details will be shared upon registration. 


 

Tuesday, April 21 | Nature-Friendly Gardening
1:00pm - 2:00pm | Naturally Kiawah Demonstration Garden, Night Heron Park

Registration is required.


Explore the Naturally Kiawah Demonstration Garden with Conservancy of the Sea Islands horticulturalist Morgan Farah. During this guided walk, Morgan will share expert insights on native plants that thrive in our Sea Islands' unique environment and offer practical tips for incorporating them into your own landscape. Discover how native plants can enhance biodiversity, conserve water, and transform your yard into a more sustainable, natural space at home.

Discover the story of St. Christopher Camp and Conference Center on a guided tour of this remarkable coastal property. Explore key spaces, meaningful landscapes, and the Center's sustainability initiatives while learning about the rich history of the land and its deep connection to our Sea Islands. Along the way, hear how St. Christopher has grown and evolved into the special place it is today—dedicated to stewardship, community, and the natural beauty that surrounds it.

 

Friday, April 24 | Living Shorelines in Action
10:00am - 11:30pm | Mingo Point (876 Kiawah Island Parkway)

Registration is required.


Discover how innovative restoration techniques, manufactured wire reefs, and community-based conservation efforts are strengthening marsh habitats, reducing erosion, improving water quality, and supporting local wildlife. This talk—along with an optional walk to the Kiawah River Bridge—offers a close-up view of the project sites and a deeper understanding at how these initiatives are helping protect our Sea Islands' natural resilience for years to come.
 

 

Friday, April 24 | Earth Day Celebration
4:00 pm - 7:00 pm | Night Heron Park

Celebrate Earth Day with Conservancy of the Sea Islands and presenting sponsor Kiawah Island Golf Resort!

Enjoy a festive afternoon at Night Heron Park featuring live music from The Hot Club of Charleston, hands-on experience with outreach animals, a native plant giveaway, and visit The Treehouse Activity Center—the newly renovated Nature Center—where kids can enjoy crafts and even meet more live animals.

Explore booths from a variety of conservation-minded organizations and groups, connect with local authors, artists, and artisans, and enjoy fun activities for all ages, including:

  • Meeting Bob E. Cat, the Conservancy of the Sea Islands' mascot
  • Testing your putting skills at the mini-golf course
  • Signing up to be a Conservancy of the Sea Islands Junior Explorer
  • Free face painting and hair tinsel
  • Getting up-close with animals from Crosswind Farm's mobile petting zoo
  • ...and more!

Food and drinks will be available for purchase at The Nest Market|Café at Night Heron Park or The Perch, which is located inside The Treehouse Activity Center.

ABOUT THE CONSERVANCY

Conservancy of the Sea Islands (formerly Kiawah Conservancy) is a land trust and leader in science-based education, environmental restoration, and conservation across Johns, Kiawah, and Seabrook Islands. Founded in 1997, we forever safeguard the lands, waters, and wildlife that define our distinct way of life. Working with property owners, community members, and a wide range of public and private partners, we forever protect vital assets and inspire residents and visitors alike to champion the land’s enduring legacy through meaningful, everyday actions.

Conservancy of the Sea Islands is an accredited land trust through the Land Trust Accreditation Commission, meeting the highest standards for protecting land forever. To date, we have preserved 86 properties totaling more than 3,887 acres of ecologically significant land across Johns, Kiawah, and Seabrook Islands.
