About This Event
More than half of youth in Washington state are engaged in athletics or extracurricular sports. High quality youth sports support academic engagement and school attendance, promote resiliency and physical health, and serve as a protective mechanism against anxiety and depression. Yet, Washington has no guidelines to ensure sports outside the school setting are safe and high quality.
Join the King County Play Equity Coalition for a two-part lunchtime webinar series on the landscape of youth sports in Washington state!
Through insightful dialogue with a panel of experts, we’ll delve into both the pressing challenges and promising opportunities of youth athletics. Topics will include challenges around coach training, abuse prevention, injury and accessing affordable programs as well as discussion of the public health possibilities and community benefits, state-wide, if all youth had access to high quality sport experiences.
We welcome legislators, nonprofit leaders, coaches, program providers, advocates, public health champions, mental health providers, funders, parents and young people to be part of this important conversation.

Part 2: “Youth Sports in Washington State: The Possibilities”
