Course Goals: A very exciting offering! Join native Hasidic Yiddish speaker, teacher, singer, sociologist, and activist Eidel Malowicki, along with renowned Yiddish and Klezmer performer and educator Cantor Jeff Warschauer as we explore the vast and varied repertoire of Hasidic songs in Yiddish, as well as beautiful nigunim (wordless melodies) from across the Hasidic world. Eidel, who grew up in the Hasidic community of Vienna, offers a true insider’s view of these songs and tunes, many of which are largely unknown to the secular Yiddish community.
Additional Info: Open to singers, Yiddishists, and instrumentalists with an interest in Yiddish song. All levels, backgrounds and ages are welcome, with no previous knowledge or expected religious observance required.
