About This Event

Address conditions issues in your rental apartment or home with the Law Center for Better Housing!

Has your landlord failed to make repairs or maintain proper conditions in your unit? Join LCBH on November 12th for a free community legal clinic at the Garfield Park Community Council where volunteer attorneys will help you draft 14-day letters requesting repairs for insufficient heat, lack of running water or electricity, pest infestations, structural issues, and more!

At the Clinic:

Please register to see if you qualify for our conditions clinic. You must reserve a spot for an appointment time to be assisted. There are three possible time slots to choose from. Please be sure to have information about your home, the conditions present, and your landlord's contact information ready before your appointment.

**This clinic can only help Chicago renters address conditions issues. We cannot provide legal advice about any other current legal issues. If you are currently facing a different housing issue, please chat with Renny at www.rentervention.com. If you live in subsidized housing (e.g., the government pays for all or part of your rent), you are not eligible for this clinic. If you live in a building with 6 units or less AND your landlord lives in the building, you are not eligible for this clinic.

How does it work?

The Chicago Residential Landlord Tenant Ordinance requires some landlords to maintain safe and habitable conditions in their units. When an eligible landlord refuses to fix a problem more than two weeks after receiving a 14-day conditions letter from their tenant, the renter can withhold a portion of their rent without fear of retaliatory eviction. Our volunteer attorneys will equip you with the tools to assess your rights under the RLTO and send a 14-day letter demanding repairs.
