Earlier this year, Ana, a Leader Dog client from Texas, experienced a
sudden and significant decline in her remaining vision.

Ana had led an active, independent life, working full-time in corporate
operations and finance, traveling often and playing competitive sports.
But as her vision changed, commuting, reading a computer screen,
recognizing faces and entering unfamiliar places became increasingly
difficult. “Pieces of my confidence, my clarity and my strength felt like they were slipping away,” Ana says. “Some days, the only thing I could tell myself was: just put one foot in front of the other.”

In February, Ana was matched with her Leader Dog, Willa.

Today, they navigate offices, airports, trains, restaurants, sporting
events and crowded city streets as a team. Ana has returned to
work, continues to travel and remains active in adaptive sports
and advocacy. She serves as vice captain and manager of the U.S.
Women’s National Blind Cricket Team. “Willa doesn’t simply guide me from point A to point B,” Ana says. “She gives me the confidence to move through the world again.”
