About This Event
The Brooklyn Loft’s Queer Artist Stories flips the concept of a figure drawing session, presenting a local queer artist to pose while they share their story rather than a traditional figure model.
This installment, presented in collaboration with Leslie-Lohman Museum of Art, features Godis Niya Love, whose practice engages kink, BDSM, and the dynamics of power, control, and desire. The session will unfold within the context of Rocío García: The Object of Power is Power, curated by Carmen Maria Machado. Participants are invited to consider how power is performed, negotiated, and reimagined through the body, bridging García’s painted worlds with lived experience and opening space for intimacy, vulnerability, and queer self-representation.
All skill levels welcome; a limited number of drawing supplies and sketchboards will be available. In consideration of the artwork, please use only dry materials (pencils, pastels, etc.). Ink, paint, and markers are not permitted in the galleries.
The Brooklyn Loft is an art and workshop space that creates one-of-a-kind experiences centered on community and connection. Founded in 2023 by Freddie Chavda, The Brooklyn Loft has held over 600+ events, primarily focused around figure drawing.
Accessibility
Chairs with backs will be available. Located at 26 Wooster Street, the Leslie-Lohman Museum of Art strives to provide a welcoming environment to all visitors. Five external steps lead to our entrance doors: a wheelchair lift is available. All galleries are wheelchair-accessible, and a single-occupancy accessible restroom is located behind the visitor services desk: all restrooms are gender-neutral. Large print didactics are available. For questions or access requests, please email info@leslielohman.org with 1 week advance of your visit.
