Performance Lecture: Jason Wee on Eikoh Hosoe and Yukio Mishima

About This Event

Jason Wee opens PROPS from Barakei: Eikoh Hosoe and Jason Wee, on view Nov 6, 2026–March 14, 2027, with a performance lecture exploring the history behind Eikoh Hosoe and Yukio Mishima’s collaboration on the photo series Ordeal by Roses. Through a visual presentation, Wee considers how props, bodies, and performance were used to construct and complicate Mishima’s self-made mythology. The lecture reflects on the relationship between masculinity, desire, and notions of imperial imagination, offering a deeper context for the photographs and the questions at the heart of PROPS.
