LIGHT[the]HILL: A Luminaria Celebration 2026

Registration ends Saturday, 10/31/2026 11:59pm EDT

About This Event

Our annual LIGHT[the]HILL luminaria celebration will be held once again Sat., November 7 at Kershaw Park in Canandaigua. (Rain/Snow Date: Saturday November 14th). Last year we had over 2,400 luminarias lit in memory or in honor of loved ones, bringing Kershaw Park to life! The light of each candle illuminates a loving spirit, contributing to the quiet splendor of this special event.

You can support LIGHT[the]HILL by purchasing a luminaria(s) in memory or in honor of a loved one. Each individual luminaria is $12 and group packages of 12 or 24 can be purchased at a discount. Orders must be received by October 31st. Light Hill volunteers will create and personalize, place and light each luminaria on November 7th. Community members are invited to join us at Kershaw Park between 5:30 - 8:00pm that evening to share in a celebration of hope. Be Still, Remember and Stroll...

LIGHT[the]HILL takes place during National Hospice and Palliative Care Month. Your support by spreading the word or purchasing luminarias will light the way for our mission, caring for others at a profound time in one’s life.

How do I find my loved one?

Orders are grouped by ORDER Last Name. That way your entire order will be together in one section. For example: Jane Smith orders a luminaria for Zan Zeller, Sue Smith and Andy Adams. All 3 luminarias will be in the "S" section for Smith. "A" begins at the Canandaigua Lady and "Z" ends at the Sailboard Shop. Each section is labeled.

  • We cannot not guarantee names will be next to each other as we use both sides of the path.
  • We cannot honor requests for special placement, but you are welcome to move your luminaria to a place on the path that's meaningful to you.
  • Please do not move luminarias anywhere off the main path (i.e. trees, bathhouse, playground etc). These special lights quickly become waste when left in the wrong place. We want to respect our environment and keep our parks clean.

Can I keep my luminaria?

You are welcome to take the cusotmized paper bag! You do not have to wait until the event is over, once you have enjoyed your time, you may take your bag. Please leave the sand and battery operated candle. You may either leave it on the path where you bag was placed or return it to the gazebo. To keep event costs accessible, we reuse our sand and candles year after year.

Want to volunteer to help us with this amazing event?

We have several work nights for writing and alphabetizing. Clear, bold, legible handwriting is key! Reach out to MK for details.

Day-Of: Many hands make light work when it comes to such a feat. We need volunteers to help organize names, pull carts, place luminaries, light candles and then re-organize everything afterward! We have 3 shifts- 1-5p, 4-8p, and 8-10p.
