About This Event
Please join us for a special presentation in the garden by Michael Jones and Paul Whalen, partners at Robert A.M. Stern Architects and two of the firm’s most accomplished designers of residential architecture and urban places.
In a sweeping tour of southern England’s most evocative landscapes, Michael and Paul will share garden plans, travel photography, and reflections on the enduring dialogue between classicism, romanticism, and the many international influences that shaped the English landscape tradition. Their journey carried them from the sculpted calm of Rousham to the grandeur of Blenheim, the intimate terraces of Iford Manor, the painterly charm of Charleston, and the iconic rooms of Sissinghurst, with memorable stops at Badminton, Ferne Park, and Highgrove along the way.
Together, Michael and Paul bring a deep understanding of place-making at every scale—from celebrated towers along Central Park to master plans across the United States and abroad. Co-authors of City Living: Apartment Houses by Robert A.M. Stern Architects, they are widely recognized for their contributions to contemporary classical design, their leadership within the profession, and their commitment to cultural and civic institutions.
Come for an afternoon that blends travel, history, and design insight amid the beauty of the garden.
