About This Event

Join us for a reading and conversation celebrating Jill Moser’s Talking Pictures: Collaborations, a unique image/text catalogue-come-to-life that features an exhilarating chorus of 40 voices: poets, artists, journalists, critics, curators, historians, novelists, and psychoanalysts in dialogue with Moser’s work. This eclectic range of responses addresses Moser’s full vocabulary of color and gesture.

A select reading of the book by a group of contributors including Elena Karina Byrne, Ágnes Berecz, Lila Zemborain, Star Black, David Lichtenstein, Corinne Erni, Alison Mitchell, and Jill Moser will be accompanied by a video, followed by a conversation with Moser and Q & A. The presentation will highlight how ekphrasis extends beyond its definition as a literary device and reflects how individuals respond to and translate works of art.

Talking Pictures is a unique interplay of image and text. Moser asked each of forty friends and colleagues to create a dialogue with one of her painted collages. These collaborators -- poets, artists, journalists, critics, curators, historians, novelists, psychoanalysts -- form a chorus, playing along the border between the visual and verbal. The result is this compelling and beautiful collection.Books will be available for sale.

The chorus of forty include: Tiffany Bell, Agnes Berecz, Star Black, Charles Bernstein, Jon Bowermaster, Barbar Bloemink, Giuliana Bruno, Jesse Browner, Lee Eiferman, Elena Karina Byrne, Corinne Erni, Aniko Erdosi, Stephen Frailey, Laurence Hegarty, Christopher French, Mary Heilmann, David Humphrey, Didi Jackson, Major Jackson, Susan Lewis, David Lichtenstein, Mary Lucier, Tim Maul, Alison Mitchell, Milos Zahradka Maiorana, Jennifer McGregor, Sarah Greenberg Morse, Paul Muldoon, Eric Pankey, Anne Plettener, Nancy Princenthal, Manya Steinkoler, Laurie Sheck, Adam Simon, Chase Twichell, Terrie Sultan, Eliza Walton, Stephen Westfall, Lilly Wei, Karen Wilkin, Lila Zemborain.

About the Artist

Jill Moser’s recent work originates in the gestural line that has been her hallmark for thirty years. Gestures that capture the feeling of being caught in the act, caught as they are made, held in suspended animation. Moser has conceived a language of drawing, painting, and printmaking that resists figuration to celebrate visual narratives. Moser's paintings, drawings, prints, and artist's books have been exhibited in galleries and museums throughout the United States and Europe, and featured in prominent collections, including The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Museum of Modern Art, The Museum of Fine Arts Houston, The National Gallery of Art, The Yale University Art Gallery, The Fogg Art Museum, and The National Library of France.
