Shavuot Kabbalat Shabbat, Tikkun & Revelation Ritual
Friday, May 22
Shavuot arrives as a threshold—fifty days after Passover, we come to receive again the medicine of Matan Torah, the gift of our ancestral wisdom. This is not only a remembering, but a re-opening: a chance to attune ourselves to revelation as a living, breathing possibility.
This year, as Shavuot and Shabbat meet, we gather to enter the festival together—in rhythm with sacred time, in community, and around the fire.
Come as you are. Come ready to listen, sing, learn, teach, and receive.
Schedule
6:00 pm — Gather & Light Sacred Fire 🔥
Arrive early to drop in and join us as we kindle the Sacred Fire.
6:30 pm — Candle Lighting, Kiddush, Motzi & Potluck 🧀
We begin with blessings and shared nourishment. Bring a potluck offering to share!
7:30 pm — Kabbalat Shabbat Around the Fire 🎶
A special Kabbalat Shabbat will open our space and guide us into the depths of Shavuot.
8:15 pm — Shavuot’s Layered Observance: A Teaching with Rabbi Zelig ⛰️
Shavuot, the Festival of Weeks, holds many layers. As Chag Matan Torah, we honor the ongoing possibility of revelation—especially in the wild field of the wilderness. As Chag HaBikkurim, we celebrate the first fruits—of the land, and of our lives.
8:45 pm — Community Learning Breakout Sessions I 🔯
Makom Shalom community members offer teachings with each other their wisdom in small group break-outs
9:45 pm — Cheesecake Break 🍥
A sweet pause. We honor the tradition of dairy on Shavuot, rooted in the abundance of the season.
10:00 pm — Learning Breakout Sessions II 🔯
A second round of community shared wisdom and exploration.
11:00 pm — Revelation Ritual 🙏
At the core of Shavuot is the mythos of revelation at Sinai. And still—revelation is alive. Through guided ritual, we enter the gates of personal and collective receiving.
Midnight → Sunrise — Sacred Fire Time 🔥
For those who wish to stay: the night opens. Story, silence, prayer, and presence around the fire.
This is a night to lean in.
To listen for what is being given.
To remember that revelation is not behind us—but waiting.
